The Houston franchise was accepted into the Major
Leagues on October 17, 1960 and played their first game
in the Majors on April 10, 1962, defeating the Chicago
Cubs by a score of 11-2. Originally the team was known
as the Houston Colt .45s and did not change their name
to the Astros until
1965 when they played their first game in Houston
Astrodome becoming
the first professional team to play indoors.
