League expanded in 1961, Calvin Griffith seized the
opportunity to move his Washington Senators to what
he hoped would be a better region.
Minnesota became the home for the renamed
the
Minnesota Twins renamed for
Minneapolis-St. Paul, the Twin Cities.

and, later, Rod Carew joining the likes of Harmon
Killebrew and Bob Allison, the Twins won their first
AL pennant in 1965 and won consecutive division
titles in 1969-70.

The
Twins
won the West Division by eight
games and defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the
playoffs to advance to the World Series against
the Atlanta Braves, another team that had
finished last the previous year. It was one of
the most memorable World Series ever, with three
games—including the final two—being decided in
extra innings.
- The biggest story of the 2004 season was the
emergence of lefthander Johan Santana, who was
unbeatable over the final half of the season.

opened on April 3, 1982, has been home
to the Minnesota Twins for the past 20 years.
