Before teeing off, I had worked on the 10-15 footers on the practice putting green (the length of which would later become a daunting putt for golfers playing the historic Masters course). While there, I had a chance to visit with other guests, namely a tall, lanky man with a raspy drawl. He happened to sport a white golf cap emblazoned with a large crimson ‘A’ logo above the bill. We exchanged pleasantries before starting the game, mostly due to our excitement of tackling the challenging course at Augusta National Golf Club.

It was indeed a memorable spring day at Augusta National. With three birdies at #3, #13, & #17, and a final score of 77 behind us, my new golfing buddy and I camped at the 19th hole for a cocktail and some tall tales. But the cherry in my Old-Fashioned wasn’t the incredible round of golf we’d just played; it was the legendary status of my putting green partner. It turns out the gentleman went by the name of Paul “Bear” Bryant, acclaimed coach at University of Alabama.

Though I can hardly say it started out as a typical day, it turned out to be more than I ever bargained for. A great game of golf, a brush with the crimson tide and the beauty of Augusta National … Life couldn’t have been any sweeter.

The Southeastern Conference was started in 1933, however the 12-team football championship was not included until 1991 because prior to that, there were only ten teams.  In the NCAA, the SEC made history as the first conference to hold a championship. Many other conferences soon did the same because it was wildly popular among football fans.

Florida is the leader in the conference with a total of ten appearances and seven wins. Alabama is not far behind with seven championship appearances, all of which were against Florida, but with only three times.

The only way to purchase SEC championship game tickets directly from the organization is by getting on the waiting list, which is only open for a few months each year.  Once you get tickets, you have the option to renew them each year, but your chances of getting them in the first place are slim.  The tickets that do not get renewed are made available in a drawing for those on the waiting list.  The list for 2011 is closed, so your only chance of getting SEC championship tickets for this year is through a re-seller. Don’t wait until the last minute; no matter which teams make it to the 2011 SEC football championship game, it will be an event that football fans will not want to miss.
