- The
San Francisco 49ers
have the distinction of being the first major league
professional sports franchise on the West Coast. The 49ers
entered professional football in 1946.
The 49ers earned its name from the surge of gold miners to
the San Francisco area during 1849, thus the nickname the
"Niners"
or
San Francisco 49ers.
-
- Led by legendary quarterback Joe Montana, the 49ers were
dubbed the Team of the 80s as the 49ers
won Super Bowls at the
conclusion of the 1981, 1984, 1988 and 1989 seasons.

A San Francisco 49ers season ticket was a proud possession
during the Super Bowl years. The 49ers were once the toast of the
Bay area and a pair of premium yard-line 49ers tickets
to "Candlestick" sometimes brought as much as a mortgage
payment.
-
- Currently
San Francisco 49ers
ownership
is rebuilding
their once "esteemed" 49ers organization. Veteran Coach Mike
Nolan was hired and given full autonomy to run the football
operations. The 49ers, with the #1
pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, subsequently selected, QB Alex
Smith. Coach Nolan's rebuilding job continues as the
49ers landed athletic TE Vernon Jones, and DE-LB Manny
Lawson in the recent 2006 NFL draft. Expectations
are hopeful that the acquisition of
Vernon Davis will accelerate the development of last year's
#1 pick, QB Alex Smith.
