The Redskins
began playing in the NFL in 1933 as the
Boston Braves and then the Boston Redskins, before
becoming the
Washington Redskins
in 1937. The Washington Redskins
franchise history is
packed with some of the brightest stars ever to
shine in the NFL and championships have regularly found
their way to America’s capital. Before the advent of the
Super Bowl, the
Washington
Redskins
won NFL championships in 1937 and 1942.
The Washington Redskins picked
up Super Bowl titles in 1983, 1988 and 1992.
Prior to the
2004
season, owner, Daniel Snyder successfully lured
former Skins Alumnus, Joe Gibbs away from NASCAR
to return as head coach.
